Stellantis, the auto manufacturer, has issued a recall for more than 1.2 million Ram pickup trucks in the United States. The recall is prompted by a software problem that can disable the electronic stability control system in certain models of the Ram 1500 trucks produced from 2019 to 2021 through 2025. Additionally, the recall extends to 233,161 vehicles in Canada, Mexico, and select markets outside of North America.

According to an official statement released on Saturday by Stellantis, the affected trucks may have anti-lock brake software that can unintentionally shut down the stability control system. The stability control system is responsible for managing throttle and brakes to prevent skidding. However, even if this occurs, the brakes will still function properly. Fortunately, there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this issue.

To ensure compliance with U.S. safety standards, which mandate that electronic stability control must be operational during almost all driving conditions, Stellantis will be offering a solution. Owners of the affected Ram pickup trucks will be notified by letters commencing on October 3 and directed to dealerships for a software update, which will be performed at no cost.

In addition to the Ram pickup truck recall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also announced that Stellantis will be recalling 32,863 Jeep Gladiator vehicles manufactured between 2020 and 2024. Furthermore, Jeep Wrangler vehicles produced from 2018 to 2024 may also be affected due to a potential internal short circuit in the instrument panel cluster. Reuters reported this information.

These recent recalls are part of a series of safety actions taken by Stellantis this year. In March, the company issued a recall for several thousand Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect that could cause airbags to rupture, endangering occupants with metal fragments. Likewise, in February, over 338,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees were recalled due to a ball joint issue that could result in a loss of driver control, potentially leading to accidents. Stellantis also recalled 332,000 Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Jeep vehicles in July for seat belt connector sensor malfunctions, though no accidents or injuries have been reported. Furthermore, just a month prior, nearly 1.2 million Stellantis vehicles were recalled in North America to resolve a software glitch affecting rearview cameras. The affected models included Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram pickup trucks and SUVs.

Stellantis is taking proactive measures to address these safety concerns and ensure the wellbeing of their customers. Owners of affected vehicles are strongly urged to heed the recall notices and promptly arrange for repairs at authorized dealerships. By addressing these issues promptly, the company aims to demonstrate its commitment to delivering safe and reliable vehicles to consumers.
