The drama unfolded after Pierce appeared to endorse the notion of trading Adams by liking a post on Instagram suggesting the veteran player may have played his last game with the Raiders.
On Tuesday morning, Adams was fielding questions about his coach’s Instagram activity, which had captured significant attention on social media. The situation escalated when Adams reportedly informed the Raiders of his wish to be traded. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news of Adams' trade request, while the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Vincent Bonsignore revealed that the Raiders are increasingly open to the idea and have started contacting other teams to gauge interest.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that the Raiders would consider a trade package involving a second-round pick and additional compensation for Adams. The sequence of events began on Monday when Antonio Pierce liked an Instagram post from Sports Illustrated that speculated Adams may not suit up for the Raiders again this season. The post was from SI’s Michael Fabiano, who noted the Raiders might trade Adams to extract value before conceding their season was going nowhere.
During an interview on the "Up & Adams" show, Adams said he had not spoken to Pierce following the coach's social media activity. When host Kay Adams asked if he had heard from Pierce, Adams responded, “I haven’t heard from him. I haven’t talked to him. I don’t really know exactly what that was about.”
Adams was inactive in Sunday’s victory over the Cleveland Browns due to a hamstring injury. As the controversy swirled, Adams emphasized that he was staying focused on his work and not engaging in drama. “There’s always some sort of drama. At the end of the day, one seven doesn’t create any of it,” he remarked. “I’m just chilling trying to be the model for not stirring the pot.”
The Raiders have not publicly commented on the situation, nor has coach Antonio Pierce. This latest episode adds to the growing list of controversies in the Raiders’ season, which has seen Pierce come under scrutiny for his handling of team affairs and player relations.
Pierce, in his second season as head coach and first as a full-time leader, has already been involved in several tumultuous incidents. After a heavy Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Pierce made cryptic remarks about players' "business decisions," resulting in criticism for not accepting personal accountability for the team’s performance.
Following the Raiders' recent win over the Browns, Pierce apologized for his previous comments, acknowledging that they might have been a distraction. However, with the recent social media activity and Adams' trade request, it appears that the turbulence within the Raiders' camp is far from over.
