Over the weekend, 45 individuals were shot, resulting in six fatalities. As the clock ticked towards Monday morning, another 22 people were wounded, with two fatalities, in just a six-hour period. Tragically, this weekend also witnessed two mass shootings that occurred only an hour apart in the early hours of Monday.
The first incident transpired around 12:45 a.m. at a Shell gas station in the 900 block of North Pulaski. During a large gathering, five individuals, including a 15-year-old girl, were shot. The gas station's security cameras captured the chaotic scene as gunshots rang out, while one person was seen being dragged by a vehicle. Investigators believe the suspect fled the scene on foot after firing the weapon.
In the second mass shooting, which took place around 2 a.m. in the 6000 block of South Winchester, a 20-year-old man was critically injured, and five others were wounded. Police suspect that two gunmen were involved in this incident.
In another tragic incident just before 3 a.m. on Monday, a 39-year-old man standing outside in the 7700 block of South Chicago Avenue was fatally shot by an unidentified offender, possibly fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Despite being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Shortly after, in the 1100 block of North Ridgeway, a 26-year-old woman was shot multiple times in the head. She was dropped off at Humboldt Park Health and subsequently transferred to Stroger Hospital, where she is currently in critical condition.
As of now, no suspects have been taken into custody in connection with any of the mentioned shootings. Chicago police continue to investigate these incidents, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
