Marcus "MJ" Daniels, aged 21, had been a starting cornerback for Southern Miss during the previous season, having transferred from Ole Miss. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 195 pounds, the senior player was known for his stellar performance on the field, recording 28 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles last season. This year, he transitioned to the safety position and was expected to be a key player for the team.
