In a shocking turn of events, Paradox Tectonic, the developers behind the highly anticipated game "Life By You," have been hit with the news of both the cancellation of their game and the closure of their studio by parent company Paradox Interactive. The announcement has left the gaming community reeling and the developers themselves in a state of dismay.

According to a LinkedIn post by game designer Willem Delventhal, the cancellation came as a surprise to the team, as they were only informed just two weeks before the planned launch date. Delventhal expressed his frustration, sharing that the team had put in tremendous effort to make the game a success, even exceeding the internal metrics set by the company. Unfortunately, their hard work was seemingly in vain as they were abruptly laid off without proper communication.

Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester's announcement on the cancellation acknowledged the dedication and hard work put into "Life By You" but cited the cancellation of their sole project as the reason for closing down Paradox Tectonic. Delventhal's LinkedIn post revealed that the team had spent a month in uncertainty, attempting to prove their worth to the company but receiving minimal feedback.

The cancellation of "Life By You" comes after a series of delays, which had already made the project a difficult one for the team. Delventhal mentioned that as an outsider, he could understand some of the possible business reasons behind the cancellation, but expressed his frustration at the lack of communication from the company.

Paradox Interactive, despite reporting record revenue in the previous year, has experienced a decrease in profits. The decision to cancel "Life By You" and shut down Paradox Tectonic seems to be driven by strategic considerations to streamline operations.

The cancellation has left the gaming community and former Paradox Tectonic staff expressing their support for the affected developers. Delventhal concluded his post by highlighting the unfortunate reality of the gaming industry, where teams can exceed expectations and have significant financial backing, only to have their efforts thwarted just before launch.

As the dust settles, questions surrounding the future of the talented team at Paradox Tectonic and the fate of "Life By You" remain unanswered. The gaming community eagerly anticipates further developments and hopes for a positive outcome for all those affected by this unexpected turn of events.
