A severe fire erupted on South Alvord Street on Sunday morning in Syracuse, N.Y., resulting in two individuals being hospitalized. Emergency responders arrived swiftly, finding two people had escaped through a window and were stranded on the roof of the structure. One person jumped from the roof as firefighters brought a ladder to their location, allowing the second individual to safely descend to the ground.
Both individuals were quickly transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Deputy Chief James Farewell confirmed that these were the only people affected by the blaze. "We searched the entire house," he stated, emphasizing the thorough efforts of the firefighting team.
The incident was particularly hazardous due to the heavy smoke, which created near-zero visibility conditions inside the home. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated on the building's second floor, specifically in the kitchen area.
As of 7:00 a.m on Sunday, fire crews remained on the scene to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Thankfully, no firefighters sustained injuries during the incident. The American Red Cross is assisting the victims as they recover from this harrowing experience.
