In a significant revelation, South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik has stated that North Korea has sent nearly 5 million artillery shells to Russia through at least 10,000 shipping containers. The shells, capable of causing significant destruction, were sent as part of a trade agreement between the two nations.
According to Minister Shin, Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to further seek close security cooperation with North Korea, specifically requesting more ammunition during his upcoming visit to Pyongyang. It is believed that Putin desires an increase in military supplies, including artillery shells, to strengthen their chances of victory in potential conflicts or power struggles.
Furthermore, it was revealed that North Korea has also dispatched dozens of ballistic missiles to Russia. The exchange between the two countries involves Russia providing North Korea with technologies necessary for deploying spy satellites, conventional armaments like tanks and aircraft, in return for the ammunition.
Earlier this year, Seoul estimated that Russia could receive up to three million artillery shells from North Korea. However, the recent findings suggest that the actual number has surpassed initial predictions, surpassing the amount of ammunition sent to Ukraine by the United States and the European Union.
These artillery shells have undoubtedly bolstered Russia's military capabilities, enabling it to continue its aggression towards Ukraine. With limited supplies and aid held up in the US Congress, Ukraine has been left to face the onslaught, as the Kremlin's forces bombard the region.
The trade and cooperation between North Korea and Russia pose concerns for the international community. As North Korea's arsenal of weapons continues to grow, diplomatic efforts to address its nuclear ambitions and aggressive military actions must be intensified to ensure regional stability and peace.
