**Sen. Fetterman Urges Democrats to Take Elon Musk's Influence Seriously in Pennsylvania**
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is cautioning his fellow Democrats about the potential impact of Elon Musk's support for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election. The Keystone State, which holds 19 critical Electoral College votes, is currently rated a toss-up by Fox News' Power Rankings. With both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris fervently vying for the state's votes, the plainspoken Fetterman stressed to the New York Post that Musk's involvement is worrisome.
“Musk is a concern,” Fetterman emphasized. “It’s not just that he has endorsed Trump, but he is actively participating by attending rallies and similar events.” The highly successful Tesla and SpaceX CEO has become an appealing figure for the kind of voters that Harris needs to secure. Drawing a parallel to the popular Marvel Comics character Tony Stark, Fetterman pointed out Musk's allure, saying, “Musk is incredibly successful and some people might view him as a Tony Stark-type figure.”
Fetterman noted that some Democrats tend to belittle Musk, treating his actions lightly and mocking his exuberant rally appearances. However, Fetterman warned, “They're doing that at our peril.” Musk, the world's richest man, once described himself as a centrist and voted for Democrats in the past. However, Musk has since criticized the Democratic Party for veering too far to the left, what he refers to as the "woke mind virus."
Earlier this month, Musk made a significant appearance at a Butler, Pennsylvania rally alongside Trump, where he told the crowd of supporters that the upcoming election is the "most important election of our lifetime." Further solidifying his support, Musk has donated $75 million to a pro-Trump super PAC that focuses on mobilizing voter turnout.
While Fetterman has had his disagreements with the progressive faction of his party, he is not panicking about the 2024 election. Still, he acknowledges that the election in Pennsylvania is “going to be ridiculously close.” He elaborated, “Trump has an undeniable connection with voters here. Anyone who spends time across Pennsylvania can see that kind of devotion. That’s why it's going to be very close. Pennsylvania picks the president.”
Fetterman has consistently supported President Joe Biden, even as some Democrats attempted to edge Biden out of the 2024 race following his criticized debate performance against Trump in June. Fetterman maintains that Biden would have been competitive against Trump if he had stayed in the race. He remarked, “Biden is the only person who’s ever beaten Trump.”
Despite any past controversies, Fetterman expressed full support for Vice President Harris, asserting that she can secure a victory in Pennsylvania. “Harris could not have run a better campaign than she has so far right now,” he told the Post.
