**Sen.-Elect Slotkin Raises Concerns Over Trump's Cabinet Picks**

Senator-elect Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., voiced apprehension on Sunday about several of President-elect Donald Trump's selections for national security positions, suggesting they may align too closely with his political views instead of providing objective intelligence assessments. Slotkin, who is currently a U.S. representative and has a background as a CIA officer and Pentagon official, emphasized the necessity for these appointees to present an unvarnished view of global intelligence.

During an interview with "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz, Slotkin highlighted the importance of truthfulness, stating that choices such as Fox News host Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary and former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for head of national intelligence should prioritize accuracy over telling Trump what he might want to hear. "Speaking truth to power is one of the most important things," she asserted, stressing that intelligence and defense assessments should be grounded in reality.

Slotkin expressed particular concern regarding Hegseth, who has previously made controversial comments about women's roles in combat. She shared feedback from senior female officers and young women aspiring to military careers, noting their anxiety about future opportunities if Hegseth’s perspectives influence policy. Hegseth has also criticized what he terms “woke” policies in the Pentagon and has advocated for firing top officials supportive of diversity efforts, which Slotkin fears could lead to unjust dismissals and stress within the military hierarchy.

In contrast, Slotkin had some words of endorsement for Trump's selection of Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., for Secretary of State. She appreciated Rubio's traditional stance on American global leadership, expressing hope that his approach could balance any impulsive decisions from Trump.

Despite her concerns, Slotkin refrained from committing to a voting stance on any nominee. She emphasized the constitutional duty of Senate advice and consent, her intention to meet with each nominee, and her understanding of the critical importance of these roles based on her professional experience in national security.
