**Scott Turner Nominated to Lead HUD in Trump Administration**
In a significant move, President-elect Donald Trump has nominated former Texas House Representative Scott Turner to head the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This nomination marks Turner as the first Texan to secure a position in Trump's second Cabinet lineup.
Turner's political journey includes representing Frisco in the Texas House from 2013 to 2017. He also contributed significantly to the Trump administration as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. If confirmed, Turner will be responsible for overseeing HUD and providing expert advice on housing issues to the President.
An alumnus of the University of Illinois, Turner has a diverse background that spans professional sports and politics. He played in the NFL for teams such as the Washington Redskins, the San Diego Chargers, and the Denver Broncos. Transitioning from sports to public service, Turner launched an unsuccessful bid for Congress in California in 2006 before successfully winning a seat in the Texas Legislature in 2012.
During his tenure in Texas, Turner made an ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to unseat Joe Straus as Texas House Speaker in 2015. Choosing not to seek re-election, Turner has since focused on community initiatives. He founded the Community Engagement & Opportunity Council, which aims to support American communities through sports, mentorship, and economic opportunities. He also holds a leadership role at the America First Policy Institute as chair at the Center for Education Opportunity.
Other Texans nominated for key roles in Trump’s administration include former U.S. Representative John Ratcliffe as CIA director, Tesla CEO Elon Musk for the Department of Government Efficiency, and former Hawaii Representative turned Leander resident, Tulsi Gabbard, for director of national intelligence. Turner's nomination adds to the strong Texas representation in the incoming administration.
