In a stern warning to Britain, Russia has cautioned that it may target British military installations and equipment both within Ukraine and elsewhere if British weapons are used by Ukraine to strike Russian territory. The warning came after British Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated last week that Ukraine had the right to utilize British weapons against Russia.

British Ambassador Nigel Casey was called to the Russian foreign ministry for a formal protest, although Britain denies that he was summoned. The British government clarified that Casey had met with Russian officials "for a diplomatic meeting," during which he reiterated the UK's support for Ukraine in the face of what they described as "unprovoked Russian aggression."

Russia's foreign ministry sees Cameron's remarks as an acknowledgment that Britain is now de facto involved in the conflict, contradicting an earlier assurance that the long-range weapons provided to Ukraine would not be used against Russia. The ministry warned Casey that should Ukrainian forces attack Russian territory using British weapons, any British military facilities and equipment in Ukraine or abroad could become targets.

The Russian foreign ministry considers Cameron's statements a serious escalation, calling on the Ambassador to reflect on the catastrophic consequences of such actions by the UK and immediately refute the confrontational statements made by the head of the British Foreign Office in a decisive and unambiguous manner.

During his visit to Kyiv last week, Cameron explicitly stated that Ukraine had the right to use the weapons provided by Britain to strike targets inside Russia, emphasizing that the decision ultimately rests with Kyiv. In Monday's meeting with Russian officials, Ambassador Casey reportedly reiterated the UK's position in providing support to Ukraine.

As tensions continue to escalate between Russia and Ukraine, the implications of Britain's support for Ukraine's use of British weapons loom large. The warning by Russia raises concerns of potential repercussions and further heightens the already tense situation in the region.
