In a surprising turn of events, Arizona's Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes has announced that Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor and personal attorney to Donald Trump, has been served with a notice of his indictment on charges related to a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona. The announcement came merely hours after Giuliani taunted Mayes on social media for failing to deliver his indictment.
Giuliani, who was celebrating his 80th birthday in Palm Beach, Florida, was served with the notice during his birthday party. The timing of the incident added a twist to the already tense situation. The former mayor had taken to social media to challenge Arizona authorities to find him, asserting that if they couldn't locate him by the following morning, they must dismiss the indictment and concede their inability to count votes.
Mayes wasted no time responding to Giuliani's taunting post, writing, "The final defendant was served moments ago. @RudyGiuliani, nobody is above the law." It is reported that Mayes successfully served Giuliani with the indictment notice during his birthday celebration.
Despite the unexpected interruption, Giuliani appeared unfazed by the birthday bash bust-up. Ted Goodman, a spokesperson for Giuliani, confirmed that the former mayor was undeterred by the attempt to embarrass him during his 80th birthday party. Goodman stated, "The mayor was unphased by the decision to try and embarrass him during his 80th birthday party. He enjoyed an incredible evening with hundreds of people who love him-from all walks of life-and we look forward to full vindication soon."
Giuliani is not the only individual implicated in the "fake electors" case. Former Trump attorney John Eastman, who appeared in court on Friday morning, pleaded not guilty to charges related to the conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona. On Tuesday morning, eleven more defendants are expected to be arraigned.
It is worth noting that this is not the first controversy Giuliani has encountered following his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. In December 2023, Giuliani was ordered to pay a $148 million verdict for defaming two Georgia election workers.
As the legal proceedings progress, the focus will now shift to Giuliani and his defense against the charges levied upon him. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have broader implications for the ongoing investigations into attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
