Rose Namajunas, known as "Thug Rose" in the UFC, showcased her skills once again as she secured her second consecutive victory in the 125-pound division. The main event of UFC Denver saw Namajunas defeat Tracy Cortez convincingly, handing her opponent her first-ever defeat inside the octagon. With this win, Namajunas further solidified her status as a two-division threat, having already been a two-time strawweight champion.
In a post-fight interview with the ESPN crew, Namajunas shared her dream scenario for her flyweight title shot. Expressing her desire to fight in Lithuania, her parents' home country, she envisioned an extraordinary moment where the UFC would hold an event there. Namajunas stated, "Bring the UFC to Lithuania, and I would love to rematch Manon Fiorot or anybody for the belt, whatever. That's my dream come true, but anything that the UFC has in mind, I'm cool with as well."
When asked about her proximity to a title shot, Namajunas confidently replied, "I'm ready whenever." Her determination and prowess in the octagon have made her a force to be reckoned with in the flyweight division.
Namajunas also addressed the possibility of participating in the first-ever women's "BMF" title fight during the post-fight press conference. Although she had jokingly mentioned it in her in-cage interview after the win, Namajunas clarified that it was more of a gag. She revealed that former opponent Joanna Jedrzejczyk had expressed interest in coming back for a women's BMF fight, but Namajunas considered it purely for entertainment purposes.
Looking back on her career, Namajunas had faced Jedrzejczyk twice before, defeating her in both encounters for the championship. Jedrzejczyk retired in 2022 and was recently inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2024.
Another memorable rival for Namajunas is former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade. The two fighters engaged in a gripping two-fight series, with Andrade brutally knocking Namajunas out in their first meeting. However, Namajunas redeemed herself with a close split decision victory in their rematch.
While Namajunas acknowledges Andrade as a potential candidate for a BMF fight, her primary focus remains on becoming an undisputed champion in a second weight class. She expressed her preference for competing for the real belt, indicating her determination to achieve greatness in the UFC.
As Namajunas continues on her path to gold, fans eagerly await the announcement of her next fight and the possibility of witnessing history being made as she competes for a title in her ancestral home of Lithuania.
