In a unified effort, all nine members of the Rochester City Council have signed a letter to New York State Attorney General Letitia James, urging her office to launch an investigation into the conduct of Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley. This move comes in response to the release of officer-worn body camera footage which shows Doorley repeatedly invoking her position as district attorney and refusing to comply with police orders during a recent traffic stop.

The letter highlighted concerns regarding Doorley's fitness to serve as the District Attorney. City Councilmembers argue that both public officials, including the District Attorney, should be held to the highest standards of ethics, accountability, and respect for the law. The behavior exhibited by Doorley, as captured in the body camera footage, is believed to have violated these standards, thereby undermining the credibility and integrity of the justice system while eroding public trust.

Joining the chorus of voices calling for an investigation, the Monroe County Legislature has also issued a statement, expressing deep concern over Doorley's recent actions. The Legislature emphasized the need for a thorough scrutiny into the matter and called for appropriate disciplinary action. The statement further emphasized the importance of shedding light on the inequities present within the criminal justice system, denouncing the incident as an abuse of power and double standards.

Monroe County Legislature Rachel Barnhart echoed these sentiments, labeling the incident as an abuse of power and privilege. Barnhart emphasized that such behavior should not be overlooked and warrants serious consequences.

The release of the body camera footage has ignited a fervent response from both the Rochester City Council and the Monroe County Legislature, as they seek to ensure accountability and transparency within the justice system. The letter to the New York State Attorney General, signed by all nine City Council members, calls for a comprehensive investigation, shedding light on the need for ethical conduct and upholding the trust of the community.

The public now awaits the response from the New York State Attorney General's office, as they grapple with the question of whether an investigation into the conduct of Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley is warranted.
