**Rocco Becht's Heroics Propel Iowa State to Thrilling Victory Over UCF**

AMES - Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht showcased his surprising rushing prowess in a nail-biting 38-35 victory over UCF at the sold-out Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday. Becht’s agility and quick cuts on the field helped convert key third and fourth downs, culminating in a career-high 97 rushing yards and a game-winning touchdown.

“We had a few QB-designed runs but not all of those rushing yards were QB-designed,” explained Becht, who also threw for 270 yards. "I just kind of played the game like backyard football. It helped us out on third downs and fourth downs and as long as it helps the team out, I'll keep doing it."

Iowa State’s offense amassed a season-high 530 yards despite several setbacks, including two interceptions by Becht that led to UCF touchdowns. The Cyclones' defense also struggled, surrendering 354 rushing yards—the most they’ve allowed in a win since at least 1996. Nevertheless, ISU pulled off crucial plays in the final minutes to secure their victory.

“Our seniors have powerful stories,” said head coach Matt Campbell. "Their stories are of resolve, toughness, and character. When that group demands a standard of excellence, you get what you saw tonight—a courageous football team."

The win improved Iowa State to 7-0, 4-0 in the Big 12, for only the second time in the program’s history and the first time in 86 years. However, the triumph came at a cost. Sophomore tight end Ben Brahmer suffered a lower-body injury and was on crutches on the sideline in the second half. With several other key players dealing with injuries, ISU’s upcoming bye week could not have come at a better time.

“I think a lot of (Brahmer’s situation) was precautionary, and hopefully, we dodged a bullet," Campbell commented. "Ben is critical to our team, but I don't think it's serious."

Iowa State's Big 12 title hopes remain alive as they prepare to face Texas Tech (5-2, 3-1) after the bye week. The Cyclones are tied with BYU at 4-0 in league play, and Campbell stressed the importance of continuous improvement.

“If we want to be a great team at the end of the season, we have to get better,” Campbell said. "You can't give up 300 yards rushing or throw two pick-sixes. But the team’s ability to respond has been amazing. Now we need to come back and practice to get better—that’s going to be fun to watch."

For Becht, whose mental toughness he describes as his superpower, the victory exemplifies the resilience and character that has driven ISU to remarkable heights this season.
