**Republicans Secure Control of Both Congressional Chambers, Projected to Steer Unified Government**

ABC News projects that the Republican Party has secured the 218-seat threshold in the House of Representatives and will maintain control with at least 52 seats in the Senate, ensuring a unified GOP government in Washington. With the incumbent Pennsylvania Democrat Bob Casey trailing behind the Republican candidate Dave McCormick and a dwindling number of votes remaining to be counted, the Senate victory seems assured for the Republicans.

In the House, despite a challenging electoral map where 17 Republicans sought reelection in districts won by President Joe Biden in 2020, the GOP managed to hold the majority. While both parties saw some losses in tight districts, the Republicans ultimately prevailed. Key wins included Reps. Mike Lawler in suburban New York and David Valadao in California, although they also faced losses such as Reps. Anthony D'Esposito in Long Island and Mike Garcia in Los Angeles.

With a clear majority, Republican House leaders have expressed eagerness to collaborate with President-elect Donald Trump following his inauguration in January. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., highlighted the party’s commitment to implementing Trump’s legislative agenda. "This leadership will hit the ground running to deliver President Trump's agenda in the 119th Congress, and we will work closely with him and his administration to turn this country around and unleash, as he says, a new golden age in America," Johnson stated during a press conference on the Capitol steps.

The GOP majority in the House, however, is expected to remain slim, necessitating the party to navigate internal divisions that have previously complicated their governance. Notably, the Republicans faced challenges in electing a House Speaker earlier this term, which saw Kevin McCarthy ousted and Mike Johnson ultimately taking the gavel after a protracted selection process. Yet, Johnson maintains his position with Trump’s endorsement, which holds significant influence within the party.

Looking ahead, Republicans have set their legislative priorities, which include extending Trump-era tax cuts set to expire next year and pushing for stricter border enforcement measures. However, passing such legislation might prove difficult given the need to overcome potential Senate filibusters. The focus will also shift to maintaining their congressional majority in the 2026 midterm elections, a historically challenging feat for the party controlling the White House. Nonetheless, Trump's influence and the party's strategic planning aim to safeguard their positions moving forward.
