Republican pollster Frank Luntz has issued a stark warning to the Republican Party, stating that former President Donald Trump's campaign requires a significant change in messaging to avoid losing not only the presidency but also the House and Senate in November. According to Luntz, recent polling shows little movement among voters, with both Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden maintaining their support bases. However, since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic candidate, there has been a shift in favor of her, particularly with undecided voters, posing a challenge for Trump in what is expected to be a tight race.

Luntz expressed his concerns during an interview on CNBC's Squawk Box on Wednesday, stating that Trump has lost control of his campaign. He criticized the former president for his comments praising Elon Musk's anti-union stances and for firing workers who go on strike. These remarks came shortly after Sean O'Brien, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, spoke at the Republican National Convention. O'Brien responded to Trump's interview by labeling the act of firing workers for organizing or striking as "economic terrorism."

Despite the unfavorable economic conditions, which include high inflation and a housing market that is locking many Americans out of home ownership, polls suggest that dissatisfaction remains high among voters. Many individuals feel that the Biden administration has not improved their lives economically, according to surveys. Historically, an electorate discontented with the economy can sway an election against the incumbent.

Throughout his campaign, Trump has held an advantage over Biden on economic issues. However, Harris has begun to erode that support. She now leads with voters on handling the housing market and has narrowed the gap with Trump on issues such as the economy, unemployment, taxes, and interest rates. Michael Ryan, a finance expert and founder of MichaelRyanMoney.com, previously told Newsweek that many Americans are seeking a fresh face with new ideas, and Harris is tapping into that sentiment.

Trump has consistently criticized both Biden and Harris on economic matters, asserting that if Harris wins the election, America will plunge into a depression. He has also pledged to end the "nightmare" of inflation experienced by Americans. In response to these concerns, Luntz advised Trump to refrain from using the term "inflation" and instead focus on housing, healthcare, food, and fuel. According to Luntz, these are issues that directly affect the voters who support Trump and are struggling financially.

Additionally, Luntz suggested that Trump should address spending in Washington, emphasizing that hardworking taxpayers despise witnessing their money being squandered by politicians. Polling indicates that Harris is closing the gap or even leading in swing states, which has significantly altered the electoral landscape, according to Luntz. He noted that Harris is attracting only 1 to 2 percent of voters, but in a close election, this could be enough to sway the outcome.

The Trump campaign has downplayed some of the polling regarding Harris' surge, attributing it to her "honeymoon" phase as the formal nominee of her party. Despite acknowledging a tight race in battleground states, the campaign maintains that Trump is not losing ground in those crucial areas.

With just months remaining until the November election, Luntz's warning underscores the urgency for Trump to adjust his campaign strategy to appeal to voters and secure crucial electoral victories for the Republican Party.
