**Rep. Nadler Condemns DHS After Staff Member's Detention in Office Incident**

In a recent incident, Rep. Jerrold Nadler voiced strong criticism against former President Donald Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) following the detention of a tearful staff member in his district office. This event unfolded as protesters were assembling outside an immigration courthouse, prompting DHS officers to attempt entry into Nadler's office located in the same Manhattan building.

According to initial reports by Gothamist, the episode was caught on video by an individual who was monitoring activities in the immigration court. The footage reveals DHS officers handcuffing an unidentified staff member inside the office. A voice, presumed to be another staff member, is heard off-camera stating, "No she did not. That is not what happened," to which an officer responded, "She pushed him back."

During the confrontation, a DHS official asserted his authority, saying, "I'm a federal officer," as he faced resistance from a staff member who questioned the legality of their entry without a search warrant. Despite lacking a warrant, the officer was eventually allowed to proceed into a private section of the office.

In a statement released on Saturday, Nadler condemned what he described as the "aggressive and heavy-handed tactics" employed by DHS in this situation and similar incidents nationwide. He accused Trump and DHS of "sowing chaos in our communities" and using intimidation tactics recklessly against both citizens and non-citizens.

Nadler expressed grave concerns about the apparent disregard for legal protocols. He warned, "If this can happen in a Member of Congress's office, it can happen to anyone - and it is happening." He urged both DHS and Trump to immediately cease these "dangerous tactics" and criticized the expedited removal process that he says undermines due process for immigrants and citizens alike.

Ultimately, the detained staff member was neither arrested nor charged with any crime. The staff member, while confirming to Gothamist that "everything resolved," refrained from providing additional comments.
