In a five-page letter addressed to her Republican colleagues, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia intensified her criticism of House Speaker Mike Johnson, urging her fellow Republicans to join her in removing him from his position. Greene expressed her frustration with Johnson's alleged alignment with Democrats and departure from Republican ideals, particularly on issues such as aid to Ukraine.

In her letter, Greene accused Johnson of serving the Democrats and the Biden administration, arguing that his actions were undermining the Republican Party's agenda. She emphasized the need for strong leadership that aligns with Republican principles and warned that supporting Johnson could jeopardize the party's majority. Greene vowed not to support or participate in what she described as a "path of self-inflicted destruction" for the party.

This latest move by Greene follows her previous motion to vacate Johnson's position just before the Easter recess. The motion was prompted by Johnson's reliance on Democratic votes to fund the government and avoid a shutdown. Greene referred to it as a "warning" and called for the conference to choose a new speaker.

Greene's criticism of Johnson has been escalating in recent weeks. On Monday, she referred to him as a "Democratic Speaker," citing his tendency to collaborate with Democrats on passing major legislation. Greene argued that such actions undermined the role of a Republican Speaker of the House.

Johnson, who has held the position since October, has responded to the criticism by acknowledging the frustration within the party due to its slim majority and the necessity of working with Democrats to pass legislation. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party to maintain negotiation leverage with Democrats.

The issue of providing aid to Ukraine has been a contentious one between Greene and Johnson. While Johnson plans to address the issue upon the House's return, Greene has threatened to push for Johnson's removal if he brings Ukraine aid to the floor. Johnson's decision to block the Senate-passed $95 billion aid bill for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan has been a point of disagreement.

The timing of Greene's resolution to oust Johnson remains uncertain. Should she activate the resolution, it would force the House to vote on it within two legislative days. However, a scheduled meeting between Johnson and Greene on Friday reportedly did not take place, according to a source familiar with the matter.

As tensions continue to rise within the Republican Party, the fate of Speaker Mike Johnson hangs in the balance, leaving Republicans divided and uncertain about the future of their party's leadership.
