**Putin Open to Ending Ukraine Conflict Amid Trump’s Promises of Mediation**
Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated a willingness to terminate Russia’s war on Ukraine, based on commitments made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking at a news conference during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Putin, 72, expressed his belief in Trump's sincerity regarding his desire to resolve the 32-month-old conflict.
"What Mr. Trump said recently, what I heard, [is] he spoke about the desire to do everything to end the conflict in Ukraine," Putin told reporters. He added, "It seems to me that he said it sincerely. We certainly welcome statements of this kind, no matter who makes them."
Following Putin’s remarks, Trump, 78, addressed his supporters in Nevada, expressing his intentions to initiate efforts towards a truce immediately if he wins the upcoming election. “I’m going to work on that from the day—hopefully the day that we win, which is November 5th, in the evening,” Trump announced during a rally in Las Vegas. He emphasized his commitment by stating, “On the evening of November 5th, I will call Putin. I will call [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky. I’ll say, ‘We got to stop it.’”
Trump has consistently asserted that the conflict, which began with Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, would not have occurred if he had remained in office. At the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump declared, “Under our administration, Russia respected America, just like every other country respected America, but now Joe Biden is seen as weak.” He further claimed, “As everyone understands, this horrific disaster would never have happened if our election was not rigged and if I was the president.”
During a recent meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky at Trump Tower, Trump highlighted his connections with Putin, a topic that has sparked debate and criticism over the years. “We have a very good relationship, and I also have a very good relationship, as you know, with President Putin,” Trump remarked to Zelensky in front of reporters. Confident in his approach, he concluded, “And I think if we win, I think we’re going to get it resolved very quickly.”
The potential for peace in Ukraine now notably hinges on the results of the upcoming U.S. presidential election, with both Putin and Trump indicating a readiness to end the ongoing conflict through diplomatic means.
