A pair of recent polls has revealed that public opinion of former President Donald Trump has remained largely unchanged after he received a guilty verdict in his Manhattan hush money case last week. Despite the conviction on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, Trump's overall approval rating stood at 31%, according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll published on Sunday. This figure is statistically similar to his approval rating of 29% in March.

The survey, which was conducted after the guilty verdict, indicates that Trump's public approval has not been significantly affected by the verdict. Furthermore, President Joe Biden's favorability numbers also remained relatively stable, with 32% of respondents approving compared to 33% in March.

The poll also revealed that half of Americans agreed with the guilty verdict, while 49% of respondents believed that Trump should drop out of the 2024 presidential election. However, responses to these questions varied along party lines. The majority of Democrats (79%) and independents (52%) believed that Trump should suspend his campaign, while only 16% of Republicans shared this view.

Moreover, nearly half (47%) of respondents in the ABC News/Ipsos poll believed that the charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg were politically motivated. This proportion remained unchanged from a survey conducted last year. A snap poll conducted by HarrisX after the verdict showed similar results, with 51% of respondents seeing the trial as "politically motivated."

The HarrisX poll conducted overnight after the verdict found that the guilty verdict had little impact on voters' intentions. While 30% of respondents stated that the verdict made them more likely to vote for Trump, 27% said it made them less likely to support him, and 44% revealed it had no impact on their decision.

In terms of electoral preferences, the HarrisX poll showed Trump leading Biden nationally by a single percentage point (43% to 42%), with 14% of respondents still undecided. When including leaners, Trump maintained a slight lead over Biden at 51% to 49%. In a five-way race, Trump garnered 40% support, Biden received 38%, while independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. secured 11%, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent candidate Cornel West each received 1% support.

The polls shed light on the public's perception of Trump's guilt and their support for his future political endeavors. However, it is important to note that the surveys were conducted online and may not fully capture the sentiment of the entire population.

Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, just one week before the Republican nomination for president is expected to be granted. Despite the verdict, the former president has maintained an active presence, attending a fundraising event in New York City and spending time with his family at Trump Tower before heading to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, for the weekend. He also attended UFC 302 at the Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday night. Trump is set to hold his first campaign rally since the verdict in Nevada on Sunday afternoon.
