Proton, a newcomer in the password security space, has unveiled a suite of tools called Pass Monitor that aims to bolster user security. With a focus on protecting against data breaches and unauthorized access, Pass Monitor includes various features to identify and address vulnerabilities.

The highlight of Pass Monitor is its ability to search for leaked email addresses. Using this tool, Proton will actively scan the internet, including the dark web, to identify any instances where Proton addresses, email aliases, or up to ten custom email addresses have been leaked and potentially exploited for malicious purposes. When a leak is detected, users will receive immediate alerts, allowing them to take prompt action and mitigate any risks.

Additionally, Pass Monitor incorporates a password health feature. This functionality assesses the strength of passwords used by users and flags any weak or reused passwords that may require updating. By encouraging users to adopt strong and unique passwords, Proton aims to minimize the risk of unauthorized access.

Furthermore, Pass Monitor includes an inactive two-factor authentication (2FA) check. This feature identifies accounts that offer the option for 2FA, enhancing security by adding an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access attempts.

To further bolster its security capabilities, Proton integrates its AI-powered account takeover detection system, Proton Sentinel, into Pass Monitor. This combination of artificial intelligence and human analysis works to identify and block account takeover attacks, providing users with peace of mind and added protection.

While the password health and 2FA checks are available to free users, the monitoring of the dark web and access to Proton Sentinel require a subscription to Pass Plus. However, currently, Proton is offering free Pass Plus memberships to its users, enabling them to maximize the benefits of the advanced security features.

The rollout of Pass Monitor will begin in the next few days, with availability on Windows, Android, and iOS platforms. Proton aims to provide users with a comprehensive and user-friendly toolset to ensure their online security in an increasingly threat-filled digital landscape.
