### Michael Jordan's Racing Team and Front Row Motorsports Sue NASCAR for Antitrust Violations

Two prominent racing teams, including one led by basketball icon Michael Jordan, have taken legal action against NASCAR, accusing the organization and its operators of monopolistic practices.

On Wednesday, Front Row Motorsports and 23XI Racing, co-owned by Jordan, filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Charlotte, North Carolina. In their complaint, the teams allege that NASCAR's operations are overly secretive and disproportionately benefit CEO Jim France and his family. Jim France is the son of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr., and the lawsuit claims this legacy has allowed the France family to maintain monopolistic control over the sport.

"The France family and NASCAR have acted as monopolistic bullies," the lawsuit states. "Remaining silent would only allow them to continue exploiting their power. That’s why we have decided to take a stand now."

NASCAR represents top-tier stock car racing in the United States. A spokesperson for NASCAR stated on Wednesday that the organization is still in the process of reviewing the complaint and could not provide immediate comments on the legal matter.

Front Row Motorsports, steered by owner Bob Jenkins, and 23XI Racing, which Jordan co-owns with Denny Hamlin and Curtis Polk, have expressed concerns over the inequitable distribution of NASCAR’s growing revenue. The complaint points out that racing teams are receiving a minimal 13% slice of NASCAR’s revenue, despite lucrative TV deals worth approximately $23.1 billion since 2001.

"Unlike many top professional sports leagues like the NFL or NBA, which are operated by their teams, NASCAR remains privately owned by the France family," the lawsuit argues. "This has enabled NASCAR to enforce anti-competitive terms on racing teams as a requirement for participation."

Attorney Jeffrey Kessler, known for his expertise in sports antitrust issues, represents the plaintiffs and is keen to delve into NASCAR's financial records through pre-trial discovery. “We aim to uncover the financial intricacies and reveal the exploitation affecting teams and drivers," Kessler said.

Michael Jordan drew a parallel between this legal battle and his illustrious NBA career with the Chicago Bulls, during which he secured six championships. "I am a relentless competitor, and that drive extends to the 23XI team every race week,” Jordan said in a statement. “While I have a deep passion for racing and our fans, the current NASCAR model is unfair. Today’s lawsuit reflects my commitment to fostering a competitive market benefiting teams, drivers, sponsors, and fans alike."
