The 85-year-old, who is the estranged husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne, was convicted on all four wire fraud charges. Each count carries a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years.

Throughout the trial, it was revealed that Girardi had embezzled at least $15 million in settlement funds from his legal clients. The scams, which took place from 2010 to 2020, came to light with the release of the 2021 documentary The Housewife and the Hustler on Hulu, which shed further light on Girardi's deceitful actions.

Girardi's fraudulent activities were seen as a betrayal of the trust placed in him by his clients, who sought his legal help in the aftermath of significant trauma and injury. Instead of advocating for their best interests, Girardi exploited their misfortunes to fund his opulent lifestyle.

The jury deliberated for a brief period, meeting for approximately two hours on Tuesday morning before reaching a verdict. Despite being declared competent to stand trial in January, Girardi, who is reportedly suffering from dementia, showed no visible reaction as the verdicts were read.

Speaking on the conviction, Tyler Hatcher, the Special Agent in Charge of the Justice Department, emphasized the magnitude of Girardi's wrongdoing. He stated, "Mr. Girardi exploited his clients' misfortunes on a grand scale. His clients sought his help in the wake of significant trauma and injury, yet he violated their trust to steal from them and fund his own lavish lifestyle, and he will now face the consequences of his actions."

Girardi's indictment also implicates Christopher Kamon, the former chief financial officer for the now-closed law firm Girardi Keese. Kamon is accused of pocketing approximately $50 million from Girardi Keese accounts and is scheduled to stand trial separately in January. Additionally, David R. Lira, Girardi's son-in-law and a former lawyer at Girardi Keese, is facing federal fraud charges in Chicago, with his trial set for March 3.

As a result of this guilty verdict, Tom Girardi now faces a lengthy prison sentence for his crimes. The prominent attorney, known for his involvement in the 1980s lawsuit against Pacific Gas & Electric which inspired the film Erin Brockovich, will need to come to terms with the severe consequences of his actions.
