Article:
Pro-Palestinian protests caused significant traffic disruptions on California highways on Monday morning. Two separate demonstrations resulted in the closure of lanes on I-880 in Oakland, as well as activists blocking southbound traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), authorities were working to clear the protests, which were part of multiple demonstrations causing traffic blockades in the Bay Area. The protest on I-880 began with an initial accident report at 23rd Ave., blocking northbound lanes of the freeway. However, it was later revealed that protesters in the area were using barrels and chains to block all northbound lanes.

While it remains unclear what exactly the protesters were demonstrating against, local reports indicated the presence of a banner displaying the message "A-15 Economic blockade for a free Palestine." Approximately 15 protesters were reported to be blocking the northbound lanes of I-880, causing significant congestion in the area.

CHP and Oakland police officers were present at the scene in significant numbers, working to safely remove the protesters and clear the lanes. Video footage showed officers cutting through chains and steel barrels to remove the protesters' blockade.

In addition to the I-880 protest, another group of hundreds of activists blocked southbound traffic at 7th Street near the Port of Oakland and Jack London Square. This demonstration also resulted in the closure of all lanes of the eastbound and westbound I-80 connector ramps to southbound I-880 in Oakland.

As of 11 a.m., one lane of northbound I-880 near the 23rd Avenue protest had reopened, allowing some traffic to flow. Similarly, one lane of southbound I-880 between 7th Street and Broadway was reopened around 12:40 p.m. However, it was unclear at the time of reporting whether the southbound direction of I-880 had fully reopened.

These protests in California were part of a coordinated international effort called the "economic blockade" targeting the global economy's perceived complicity in Israel's actions against the Palestinian people. Similar disruptions were reported in New York and Chicago.

It is worth noting that previous protests by pro-Palestinian activists have caused significant traffic disruptions in California. Last November, a large group of protesters shut down the westbound Bay Bridge during the APEC Summit. Last February, traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge was also affected by a similar protest.

Additional protests are expected to take place later in the day in San Francisco at UN Plaza and Market and Hyde streets, organized by the group Code Pink. Another action is also planned at the Tesla factory in Fremont by the A15Action group.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and work to restore normal traffic flow on the affected highways.
