### Pro-Palestinian Protest Outside NYSE as Demonstrators Chain Themselves to Security Fence
On Monday, a pro-Palestinian protest took place outside the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in lower Manhattan. While the demonstration did not disrupt trading activities, none of the protestors managed to access the historic trading floor. The NYSE had erected security fences around the exterior of the building on Broad Street, ensuring a perimeter was maintained.
The protestors, representing Jewish Voices for Peace, were seen breaking into the secured area and were chaining themselves to the security fence and some exterior doors. This incident was captured and shared on social media, where chants of "we want housing, not genocide" and "let Gaza live" were audible in livestreams on the platform X. Some protestors were arrested and carried away with zip ties, as the New York Police Department (NYPD) worked to remove the last remaining individuals inside the security gate by midday. Despite efforts to clear the area, several protestors continued to demonstrate just outside the exterior gate.
According to a post by Jewish Voices for Peace on X, the protest was directly linked to the ongoing violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They highlighted the disparity between the booming stock prices of weapons manufacturers and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. "As Gaza is bombed, Wall Street booms," the post stated, arguing that the U.S. war economy profits from what they termed genocide.
The exchange has not provided any official comments regarding the protest. It is worth noting that the NYSE has maintained rigorous security measures since the 9/11 attacks on the nearby World Trade Center buildings.
