Last night, the New York Police Department (NYPD) arrested 120 individuals participating in pro-Palestine encampment protests at New York University (NYU). University officials claimed that the group's behavior was disorderly and disruptive, leading to the arrests. This follows the recent arrest of around 100 Columbia University students who were protesting their school's financial ties to Israel amidst the ongoing Gaza war.

Tensions have been rising on both NYU and Columbia University campuses, as Jewish students report facing antisemitic harassment in recent days. The universities have been grappling with addressing these concerns while simultaneously accommodating the protests.

In response to the escalating situation, NYU announced that all classes for the remainder of the semester will be conducted through a hybrid system, combining in-person and online instruction. This decision aims to ensure the safety and well-being of the students and staff.

The impact of the protests has also extended beyond the university campuses, with prominent figures taking actions in solidarity. Robert Kraft, a major donor to Columbia University, expressed his loss of confidence in the institution's ability to protect its students and staff and revealed his decision to withdraw funding from the school.

Across the United States, students from various colleges and universities have joined the movement in support of the Columbia University protesters. Demonstrations have taken place at Yale University, MIT, Tufts University, University of Michigan, and University of California, Berkeley, as students voice their solidarity with the cause.

The situation remains fluid and university officials are now tasked with addressing the concerns of both protesting students and those who have faced antisemitic harassment. As the pro-Palestine protests continue to gain momentum, the colleges face the challenge of maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all members of their communities.
