President Joe Biden, marking the end of his half-century-long political career, will make an emotional farewell during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday. The President's speech will solidify his time in office and lay the foundation for Vice President Kamala Harris's candidacy as the new Democratic nominee.

According to anonymous Biden aides, the President will praise Harris as the best person to carry forward the campaign that he initiated, centered around safeguarding democratic ideals and thwarting a second term for former President Donald J. Trump, the Republican nominee. This moment will be bittersweet for Biden, who handed over the reins of his campaign to Harris less than a month ago, as she has taken the spotlight and delivered powerful campaign speeches while he stepped back.

Although Biden appreciates the momentum surrounding Harris, his support for her, and his desire to preserve his legacy as a one-term president who steered the nation out of the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he plans to ramp up his campaign schedule. Prior to the convention, he worked on his speech with close advisor Mike Donilon and Vinay Reddy, his chief speechwriter, at Camp David over the weekend.

Biden's address will not only endorse Harris's campaign but also highlight its alignment with his longstanding policies and ideals. He will emphasize that his election in 2020 was a triumph for democracy, and a victory for Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, in November would ensure the preservation of democracy.

The President's speech will be preceded by brief remarks from First Lady Jill Biden, who dedicated her time in office to supporting cancer research initiatives, military families, and various administration efforts such as the COVID-19 vaccine campaign. The convention organizers have made efforts to acknowledge President Biden's legacy throughout the week, including distributing goody bags to delegates containing coffee beans as a nod to his nickname, "cup of Joe."

Several Biden family members are expected to join the President and First Lady at the convention on Monday. However, they are not expected to stay for the entire week as Biden intends to address the audience and then pass the baton to Harris and Walz. The digital banners in the convention will pay tribute to Biden before transitioning to messages associated with Harris.

Other prominent speakers slated for Monday include Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic nominee. Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to speak later in the week, according to a reliable source.

Looking ahead, Biden's remaining time in office will be focused on cost-cutting measures, legislative implementation, and a packed foreign policy agenda, according to his aides.

As the Democratic National Convention unfolds, the spotlight will be on President Biden as he bids farewell and hands over the reins to Vice President Harris, setting the stage for a new chapter in the Democratic party's campaign.
