In response to growing concerns about his ability to serve a second term following his disappointing debate performance, President Joe Biden is set to hold a video call with Democratic governors, likely on Wednesday. The call comes after Democratic governors held a phone huddle on Monday to discuss the party's path forward following the debate.

Organized by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who serves as chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, the call involved no staff members or White House and Biden campaign staff. The governors expressed their concerns about the impression left by the debate performance and the lack of a clear strategy to counter it.

Despite the concerns, all participants on the call reaffirmed their support for the Biden campaign and expressed a need for reassurance. There were no discussions about going in a different direction.

Following the call, the governors suggested to Governor Walz that they would like to have a call directly with President Biden. As a result, the expected video call with the President has been scheduled for Wednesday.

A statement from a person familiar with Monday's call emphasized the strong support of Democratic governors for the President and Vice President, noting that the Biden-Harris administration's accomplishments have directly benefited their residents. The Biden-Harris team remains in constant communication with the governors and their teams.

In a separate development, White House chief of staff Jeff Zients is planning to hold an all-staff call on Wednesday, aimed at providing guidance to navigate the current challenges. This call will also include junior staffers who have voiced frustration over the lack of communication. The purpose of the call is to encourage staff to "weather the storm" and "keep your heads down," echoing the message delivered to senior staff last Friday.

As President Biden seeks to address concerns and maintain support within his party following the debate, the video call with Democratic governors and the upcoming staff call demonstrate efforts to rally and reassure key stakeholders.
