In a move that has sparked outrage among Muslim voters and organizations, President Biden is facing heavy backlash after the House passed $26 billion in funding for Israel, with his approval over the weekend. This controversial bill also includes funding for Ukraine and Taiwan, and Biden has pledged to sign it as soon as it reaches his desk.

For months, U.S. Islamic organizers have been criticizing Biden's administration for its continued support of Israel, and the news of him endorsing this latest legislation has intensified their opposition. Robert McCaw, the government affairs director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), expressed his deep concern, stating that this decision could irreparably damage the White House's relationship with the American Muslim community.

McCaw further claimed that by providing a "blank check" to the Israeli government, Biden would be enabling the purchase of offensive weapons, which according to CAIR, have been used to cause the deaths of at least 34,000 Palestinians in Gaza. CAIR went on to warn that this action would implicate the United States in what they refer to as the "Gaza genocide."

Joining the chorus of criticism, Representative Pramila Jayapal of Washington state compared the situation to the Iraq war, emphasizing that the U.S. cannot continue to support Israel while witnessing the devastating consequences in Gaza. Jayapal highlighted the absence of differentiation between funding for defensive and offensive weapons in the bill.

The backlash from Muslim voters becomes even more significant as swing states like Michigan are now at stake. Muslim and Arab American community leaders refused to meet with Biden's campaign director in January, and there have been threats of abandoning support for Biden's re-election effort. Traditionally reliable Democratic voters, Arab Americans in Michigan could heavily sway the pendulum towards Republicans if their support wavers. In the 2020 election, Biden secured over 75% of the vote in the Arab-majority city of Dearborn.

Michigan is considered a crucial battleground state, as Biden won it by a slim margin of just over 150,000 votes against former President Trump. With the Arab and Muslim communities totaling approximately 300,000 residents in the state, any significant drop in support could have a substantial impact on the election outcome.

President Biden now faces a precarious situation as he balances the concerns of Muslim voters with the longstanding U.S. alliance with Israel. The fallout from this funding decision could have far-reaching consequences, not only for Biden's relationship with American Muslims but also for his electoral prospects in key swing states.
