In a bid to boost his public image following his lackluster debate performance, President Biden asserted that he had actually managed to convert more voters to his side than former President Trump. The president made this statement during a Saturday fundraiser held at the residence of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, in the presence of several donors.

Although acknowledging that his performance during the debate left much to be desired, Biden pointed to polling data to support his claim. He told the crowd, "I didn't have a great night, but I'm going to be fighting harder. Research during the debate shows us converting more undecided voters than Trump did, in large part because of his conduct on Jan. 6. People remember the bad things during his presidency."

Biden's attempt to spin his disappointing showing during the debate comes on the heels of calls from major newspapers for him to drop out of the race. The New York Times editorial board labeled it a "reckless gamble," and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution echoed a similar sentiment, urging Biden to withdraw "for the good of the nation."

Despite the external pressure to withdraw, top Democrats across the country and in Congress have publicly expressed their support for Biden's presidential bid, disregarding internal concerns of panic within the party.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jaime Harrison sought to dispel rumors surrounding Biden's potential replacement on Saturday. Speaking to MSNBC host Al Sharpton, Harrison emphasized that public support for Biden remained strong, dismissing media speculation as "hand-wringing."

Harrison stated, "You hear the hand-wringing coming from pundits, Rev, and from op-eds like the New York Times, but you don't hear from the people. What I have seen is that galvanization, particularly in the Black community. I'm a Black man. I've seen the galvanization of support for Joe Biden because, you know, in the Black community, in your family, you can say all that you want to say about a member of your family, but don't let somebody else."

Highlighting Biden's longstanding support for the Black community, Harrison emphasized that people rallied behind the president because "Joe Biden has always had our back, and we're going to have his."

While the calls for Biden to step aside continue to come from external sources, his steadfast support within the Democratic Party remains intact. As the race progresses, it remains to be seen if the president's claims of converting more voters hold true, or if his debate performance will have a more significant impact on his campaign.
