**President Biden Debunks Weather Control Conspiracy Amid Hurricane Threat**

President Joe Biden has emphatically dismissed a conspiracy theory claiming that the federal government is manipulating the weather, a notion recently promoted by Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. During a virtual briefing on Wednesday at the White House, Biden addressed misinformation surrounding Hurricane Milton, which is poised to hit Florida and has the potential to cause extensive devastation in the region.

"The claims are getting even more bizarre. Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a congressman with Georgia, is now saying the federal government is literally controlling the weather - we're controlling the weather. It's beyond ridiculous. It's got to stop," Biden stated.

This comes after Greene posted on October 3 on X, asserting, "Yes they can control the weather. It's ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can't be done." Her viewpoint, however, faced staunch opposition within her own party, with Florida Rep. Carlos Giménez tweeting, "Humans cannot create or control hurricanes. Anyone who thinks they can, needs to have their head examined."

Despite the backlash, Greene reiterated her claims, pointing out that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has documented numerous weather modifications, which she insists are mandated to be reported due to the Weather Modification Act of 1972. She argued that citizens should be compensated if they suffer damages due to these modifications.

Biden, in his briefing, condemned such theories as part of a "reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies," which he attributed to former President Donald Trump’s influence. These assertions, he warned, are undermining rescue efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. "Assertions have been made that property is being confiscated. That's simply not true," he said, also debunking claims that disaster relief funds are being redirected to other causes.

Responding to the prolific spread of these rumors, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established a website to counteract misinformation, including false reports of funds being diverted to migrants.

While technologies such as cloud seeding exist to influence weather patterns on a small scale, experts agree that large systems like hurricanes remain beyond human control. Cloud seeding, which began in the 1950s, mainly aids precipitation processes, but its applications are limited and primarily focused on regions with water scarcities.

Although some scientists have broached the idea of geoengineering to combat climate change effects, no substantial evidence supports any current large-scale projects. Federal research into such ventures remains minimal.

NBC News has reached out to Greene's office and Trump's campaign for comments. Additionally, North Carolina Rep. Chuck Edwards dispelled another rumor linking Hurricane Helene to a government scheme for accessing lithium deposits, reinforcing that weather manipulation by the government is not feasible.
