**Philadelphia Prosecutors Sue to Halt Elon Musk’s $1M Voter Giveaway**

Philadelphia prosecutors are taking action against Elon Musk and his political organization, America PAC, to stop a $1 million prize giveaway to voters in key swing states. The legal move comes on the heels of allegations that the initiative constitutes an "illegal lottery." The lawsuit was filed by Philadelphia District Attorney Lawrence Krasner, who is pushing for an immediate halt to the giveaway ahead of the upcoming Presidential Election on November 5.

The controversy began when Musk, a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, announced in October his plan to award $1 million each day to eligible voters in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina. The eligibility criteria require registered voters to submit personal identifying details and sign a pledge to support the US Constitution. Since the announcement, nine $1 million winners have already been selected, including a recent winner from Michigan.

Krasner's lawsuit accuses Musk and America PAC of exploiting Philadelphia voters by enticing them to divulge personal information and make political commitments for a chance to win $1 million. According to Krasner, this act qualifies as a lottery, which he asserts is "indisputably an unlawful lottery."

The lawsuit also mentions potential violations of consumer protection laws, alleging that Musk's statements about the giveaway might be "deceptive, vague or misleading," thereby creating confusion among voters. Krasner is requesting an immediate injunction to stop the program before the election, asserting that the scheme was intended to sway voter decisions.

A preliminary court hearing on Krasner’s injunction request is scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia, just three days before the election. Even though the lawsuit doesn't claim that Musk and America PAC are breaching federal laws against vote buying, the controversy has garnered significant attention. America PAC told ABC News that they intend to continue the $1 million daily awards despite the legal challenge.

This week's lawsuit follows a warning from the US Department of Justice, which advised America PAC that the giveaway could potentially violate federal election laws. While US law prohibits payments to individuals for voter registration, the legality of Musk's sweepstakes remains ambiguous. Legal experts suggest that the situation occupies a "grey area."

The case has ignited a debate, with Democrats criticizing Musk for allegedly trying to buy votes. Meanwhile, Musk’s campaign moves forward amidst legal and public scrutiny as the nation gears up for the election on November 5.
