**PBS Files Lawsuit Against Trump Administration Over Funding Cuts**

The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and one of its local affiliates announced on Friday that they are suing the Trump administration to challenge an executive order aimed at terminating all federal funding for PBS and National Public Radio (NPR).

This legal move mirrors a complaint NPR lodged earlier in the week, both arguing against the executive order’s legality. PBS’s lawsuit, filed in a U.S. District Court in Washington D.C., contends that the president lacks the authority to dictate the content of PBS’s programming or to attempt to withdraw its federal funding.

“Following thorough consideration, PBS determined that it was imperative to pursue legal action to preserve public television’s editorial independence and to safeguard the autonomy of its member stations,” stated a PBS spokesperson.

This action comes in the wake of last month’s lawsuit by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) against Trump and several administration officials. The CPB suit aims to prevent the firing of three of the five members on its board and seeks a temporary restraining order.

Federal funding constitutes about 15% of PBS’s overall revenue, with the remainder sourced from public support and corporate sponsorships. However, local member stations of PBS are generally more dependent on federal funds than the national PBS organization.

This lawsuit underscores a broader campaign by the Trump administration to challenge and defund media organizations.
