The New England Patriots are leaving no stone unturned as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. With multiple key decision-makers in attendance, the Patriots are fully invested in analyzing their options, particularly when it comes to the quarterback position.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Patriots have sent a delegation including de facto general manager Eliot Wolf, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, and quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney to the University of Southern California (USC) to evaluate the talents of quarterback Caleb Williams. Joining the group are head coach Jerod Mayo, who will be present at other pro days, including Michigan, North Carolina, and LSU.

The quartet of Williams, J.J. McCarthy, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are regarded as the top four quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft. While it may seem like a waste of resources to focus so heavily on Williams, who is expected to be the future No. 1 pick and potentially join the Chicago Bears, the Patriots are keen on leaving no room for uncertainty.

The Patriots' decision to concentrate on the quarterback position has raised eyebrows among football analysts who suggest that allocating personnel to scout other positions, such as wide receivers or offensive linemen, would be more advantageous. For instance, the University of Texas has two promising wideouts, Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy, who could potentially be available when the Patriots have the 34th overall selection.

Furthermore, the University of Alabama, renowned for its talent pool, presents an opportunity to evaluate a host of draftable players. Cornerbacks Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold, offensive tackle JC Latham, pass rushers Chris Braswell and Justin Eboigbe, wide receiver Jermaine Burton, and running back Jase McClellan are just a few of the Crimson Tide prospects who could pique the interest of the Patriots' decision-makers.

Although Mayo's whereabouts are unknown on Wednesday, it is speculated that he may be present at the pro days in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Columbus, Ohio, or Austin, Texas. It is expected that the Patriots will have representation at all significant pro days.

Some critics argue that the Patriots' decision to focus solely on quarterbacks may not be the best allocation of resources. With other valuable prospects in various positions, such as wide receiver Brendan Rice, running back Tahj Washington, running back MarShawn Lloyd, and offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston, it remains to be seen if the Patriots' concentrated effort on quarterbacks will pay off in the long run.

As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, the Patriots are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to build a formidable future roster. With an emphasis on potential franchise-changing quarterbacks, the organization is striving to make an informed decision that could shape the trajectory of the team for years to come.
