LITTLE RIVER, S.C. - A holiday weekend party turned violent Sunday night when ten individuals were shot during an altercation on a private boat, according to local authorities. The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. on the coast of South Carolina in Little River.
Although none of the victims succumbed to their injuries, several were left in critical condition, as per a statement by the Horry County Police. Additionally, police mentioned that one person was taken to the hospital for injuries not related to gunfire.
The shooting erupted near a dock used by a private charter boat that offers cruises. At the time, the boat was docked, and investigators are working to pinpoint where exactly the conflict and subsequent shooting began.
An online flyer had promoted a Sunday night party featuring a DJ on a three-hour cruise scheduled to conclude at 9 p.m. A woman who answered a phone number listed on the flyer expressed her distress over witnessing her friends getting shot, but she chose not to elaborate further before hanging up.
Currently, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Complicating the chaotic evening, a North Myrtle Beach police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg while responding to the incident at a marina located approximately 3 miles away. The officer is now in stable condition at the hospital, confirmed North Myrtle Beach spokeswoman Lauren Jessie.
