Recreational marijuana sales are slated to commence in Ohio as early as next Tuesday, as confirmed by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control. This development comes after a long-awaited update regarding the status of adult-use sales in the state. In December, an initiated statute approved by voters went into effect, allowing Ohioans over the age of 21 to legally grow and possess cannabis at home. However, the absence of legal purchase avenues had posed a challenge for users seeking to obtain marijuana in a lawful manner.
To address this issue, the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control awarded a number of recreational licenses to existing medical marijuana dispensaries in June. In an official statement released on Friday, the Division announced that non-medical licenses would begin being issued on Tuesday, bringing relief to recreational cannabis enthusiasts across the state. The statement clarified that there would be no sales over the weekend and promised a formal announcement on Monday, providing further details and guidance.
Among the dispensaries receiving dual-licenses is Sunnyside, located in Columbia Township. Alongside three other dispensaries in the greater Cincinnati area, Sunnyside will be welcoming both medical and recreational customers starting Tuesday morning. As dispensaries receive their Certificate of Operation from the Ohio Department of Commerce, the Division of Cannabis Control will continually update their map, indicating which establishments are open to adult-use customers and providing information on their operational status.
Apart from Sunnyside in Columbia Township, The Landing in Norwood, The Forest in Mount Carmel, and Beyond Hello in Summerside have also received provisional licenses to sell recreational marijuana. These dispensaries, which already serve customers with medical marijuana cards, will now expand their offerings to include adult-use products, catering to the growing demand for recreational cannabis in Ohio.
The impending initiation of recreational marijuana sales represents a significant milestone in Ohio's cannabis landscape. With the availability of legal purchasing channels, consumers can expect a regulated and safe environment for accessing marijuana products. It is anticipated that the legalization of recreational sales will not only benefit individuals but also contribute to the state's economy through increased tax revenue.
As Ohio prepares for the launch of recreational marijuana sales, residents and visitors are advised to stay informed about the specific regulations and restrictions that govern the sale and use of marijuana in the state. By adhering to these guidelines, individuals can enjoy the benefits of recreational cannabis while ensuring compliance with the law.
