In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old New York City police officer has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting another man in an apparent road rage incident in New Jersey, according to the Camden County prosecutor.

The accused officer, identified as Hieu Tran, was charged on Thursday with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Tran's lawyer has not yet commented on the charges.

Tran, who is currently suspended without pay from the NYPD, is accused of shooting a 30-year-old man during a multiple-car crash in Voorhees Township on May 17, shortly after 11 p.m. Responding officers discovered that one of the drivers had sustained a gunshot wound.

The victim, a resident of Voorhees Township, was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. As of now, he remains under medical care.

Prosecutors stated that through an extensive investigation, which included analyzing surveillance video, cellphone records, and ballistics evidence, they were able to identify Tran as the shooter in what appears to be a road rage incident. The ballistic evidence recovered from the scene was linked to Tran's NYPD-issued firearm.

Tran is currently being held in New York and awaits extradition to New Jersey to face charges related to the shooting.

This incident has once again brought attention to the issue of road rage and the potential dangers it poses. Authorities continue to urge the public to exercise patience and restraint while on the roads to prevent such violent confrontations.

The NYPD has made it clear that they take such incidents seriously and have taken appropriate disciplinary action by suspending Tran without pay during the ongoing investigation.

As this case progresses, both authorities and the public await further details to understand the circumstances surrounding this alarming incident.
