In a shocking turn of events, a 27-year-old NYPD officer from Yonkers has been arrested and is set to be extradited to New Jersey to face serious charges, including attempted murder, in connection with a road rage shooting. The officer in question, identified as Hieu Tran, has reportedly waived extradition at a recent court hearing.

Tran, who had been working in the NYPD's press office, allegedly used his department-issued weapon to shoot a 30-year-old man from Voorhees Township. The incident occurred late on Friday, May 17, when the victim's vehicle crashed near Route 73 and Cooper Road. The injured victim was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment, but there is no immediate update on his condition as of Friday.

Following the shooting, authorities claim that Tran fled New Jersey. However, he was eventually located at a police headquarters on Tuesday, just two days before his arrest. Investigators are said to possess surveillance footage, cellphone records, and ballistics evidence, which allegedly link Tran to the crime. Furthermore, the ballistics reportedly matched his service weapon.

The arrested officer, who has been suspended without pay, is now facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. Tran's family members were present at his extradition hearing but declined to comment.

Tran's attorney was not available for immediate comment, leaving many questions unanswered regarding the officer’s motive and other details surrounding the incident. The NYPD and law enforcement agencies in New Jersey are likely to continue their investigation into the matter.

As of now, the officer is expected to be extradited to New Jersey later on Friday to face these serious charges. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from road rage incidents and the importance of responsible firearm use.

The consequences of this alleged act of violence committed by a sworn officer highlight the need for accountability and justice within law enforcement, as well as efforts to prevent and de-escalate such incidents in the future.
