In a significant move, the president of North America's Building Trades Unions (NABTU), Sean McGarvey, announced on Wednesday that his union will back President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in their official endorsement. McGarvey made this announcement during an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," where he addressed the union's stance on supporters of former President Donald Trump.
McGarvey stated that the NABTU will not waste time engaging with Trump supporters, either among the general public or within their own membership. He emphasized that their focus will be on the approximately 10 to 15 percent of their members who are open to conversation, where they can explain the benefits brought about by President Biden's policies and projects.
The NABTU further expressed their admiration for President Biden's commitment to rebuilding the nation's infrastructure and manufacturing sector, as well as his dedication to uplifting the American middle class. In a press release, McGarvey stated that no elected official has shown their members and their families more respect than President Biden, referring to the infrastructure projects that are creating a substantial economic boom.
While giving their endorsement to President Biden, McGarvey did not shy away from criticizing former President Trump. He accused Trump of failing to prioritize workers and enact long-awaited infrastructure investment, instead, aligning himself with wealthy elites and implementing tax cuts that raised costs for union members.
The NABTU will officially endorse President Biden and Vice President Harris during their annual national legislative conference. Furthermore, President Biden himself will address the NABTU conference on Wednesday, emphasizing his administration's commitment to rebuilding infrastructure.
This endorsement from North America's Building Trades Unions highlights the union's strong belief in President Biden's agenda for the working class and the significant impact they anticipate his policies will have on the future of the nation.
