A non-profit organization known as the Haitian Bridge Alliance has taken legal action against former President Donald Trump and Republican politician JD Vance for the misleading and racist remarks they made concerning Haitian immigrants residing in Springfield, Ohio. These statements led to a wave of violence and threats in the community, with over 30 bomb threats, school and government building evacuations, and attacks against members of the Haitian community. The charges, which include disrupting public services, making false alarms, telecommunications harassment, aggravated menacing, and complicity, were filed in Clark County, Ohio, requesting arrest warrants for both individuals.

In their affidavit, the Haitian Bridge Alliance accuses Trump and Vance of knowingly perpetuating a false narrative about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, specifically accusing them of engaging in criminal activities like stealing and consuming their neighbors' pets. These allegations were proven to be unfounded, yet the individuals continued to spread them during public appearances, campaign rallies, media interviews, and on social media platforms. Despite local prosecutors' inaction, the citizens' filing will require a prosecuting attorney to make a public determination regarding the case.

The organization asserts that the inflammatory and baseless claims made by Trump and Vance have caused widespread panic and disruption in Springfield, forcing public institutions to evacuate and diverting critical resources towards investigating the numerous threats targeting the community. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the potential visit of Trump and Vance to Springfield, prompting the filing to urge the court to render a decision prior to their arrival. Mayor Rob Rue has requested that Trump refrain from visiting the area, emphasizing the need for accountability for the alleged criminal acts committed by the accused individuals.
