In the upcoming film "Longlegs," director Osgood Perkins has taken a unique approach to marketing by keeping the appearance of Nicolas Cage's character, the titular serial killer, under wraps. This decision has created an air of mystery surrounding the film, even for Cage's co-star Maika Monroe, who plays an FBI agent on the trail of the satanic killer.

During a recent interview with IndieWire, Monroe revealed that Perkins wanted to maintain a complete separation between her and Cage on set. She was not shown any photos of Cage in character, which made their first encounter on screen a truly surprising and overwhelming experience. The cameras were rolling, the door was opened, and there stood Nicolas Cage fully transformed into the disturbing character of Longlegs.

Monroe admits that Cage's portrayal was "insane" and that he completely transformed himself for the role. She commended Perkins for keeping Cage's appearance obscured in the marketing, as it added to the overall mystique of the film. Monroe herself was drawn to the script of "Longlegs," which she described as a visceral and twist-filled experience that captivated her from the start.

The actress also shared a heartwarming moment with Cage during their time on set. On his last day, Cage praised Monroe's work in her previous film, "It Follows," and expressed his admiration for her. Monroe described the encounter as "very cute" and found it surreal to receive praise from an Oscar-winning actor whom she herself admired.

While Cage immersed himself in the character of Longlegs and stayed in that space throughout the shoot, Monroe revealed that she prefers to step out of character when the cameras stop rolling, for the sake of her mental health. She expressed her respect for the Method acting approach and acknowledged that certain roles require it, but it was not her preferred method of acting.

"Longlegs" has already drawn comparisons to crime thrillers like "Silence of the Lambs," and Monroe embraced the opportunity to delve into the genre. She expressed her fascination with crime thrillers, highlighting the intricacies and hidden moments that keep the audience engaged until the very end of the film.

Aside from working alongside Cage, Monroe also praised the haunting dolls that are part of Longlegs' twisted plans in the film. She described them as disturbing and designed to make viewers feel uncomfortable.

Neon, the film's distributor, is set to release "Longlegs" in theaters on Friday, July 12. With the mysterious marketing approach, transformative performances, and thrilling storyline, the film promises to deliver a chilling experience for audiences.
