### Nicky Jam Revokes Trump Endorsement Following Puerto Rico Insult

Puerto Rican singer Nicky Jam has retracted his endorsement of Donald Trump. This unexpected change came on Wednesday when Jam posted a video on Instagram explaining his decision. Jam originally supported Trump because he believed the former president was the best choice for improving the U.S. economy, which he felt was crucial for the many Latinos living in the country. "Since he's a businessman, I thought he'd be the best movement," he noted. However, recent events led him to reconsider his stance.

Jam cited a controversial joke by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe during a Trump event as the tipping point for his decision. Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage," a comment that did not sit well with Jam. In his Instagram video, the singer expressed his dismay, saying he had never expected such disrespect towards his homeland. "Puerto Rico deserves respect," Jam declared, making it clear that this offensive remark was a dealbreaker for his political support.

This announcement comes shortly after other prominent artists of Puerto Rican descent, including Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi, and Jennifer Lopez, showcased solidarity by resharing posts from Vice President Kamala Harris, particularly on the same day Hinchcliffe made his inflammatory joke. Jam was one of three Puerto Rican reggaeton artists, alongside Anuel AA and Justin Quiles, who had initially supported Trump.

The singer's endorsement of Trump had previously drawn significant backlash. Notably, the Mexican band Maná even pulled their collaboration with him from streaming services, with frontman Fher Olvera publicizing their decision by stating, "Maná doesn't work with racists." Following Jam's retraction, Olvera praised the singer's change of heart in a statement to Rolling Stone, emphasizing that "It's never too late to change your mind."

Tomorrow, Maná will join Vice President Harris at a rally in Las Vegas, where Jennifer Lopez is also scheduled to speak. Although Puerto Rico does not participate in electing the president, there is a substantial Puerto Rican voter population in Pennsylvania, a critical battleground state for the 2024 election.
