**NFL Players Embrace "Trump Dance" in On-Field Celebrations**
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa sparked a trend during Week 10 of the NFL season when he celebrated a sack against Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield by performing President-elect Donald Trump's viral dance. This celebratory move has since been widely adopted by players across the league.
Over the recent weekend, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, Tennessee Titans wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, along with Detroit Lions defenders Za'Darius Smith and Malcolm Rodriguez, showcased their renditions of the "Trump dance" after significant plays. The NFL has made it clear that it has "no issue" with this form of celebration. "It's up to the networks to cover them as they see fit," said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy to Front Office Sports.
The league permits players to celebrate as long as their actions are not excessively violent or sexually suggestive, and they avoid wearing printed hats or clothing that promote political opinions. Notably, Bosa faced a fine of $11,255 for wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat on the field after a game. Despite its name, the "Trump dance" is not deemed a political statement by NFL regulations.
The "Trump dance" has transcended football, capturing the attention of stars in other sports. UFC champion Jon Jones celebrated his recent victory over Stipe Miocic with the dance, later acknowledging Trump, who was seated ringside at Madison Square Garden. Similarly, U.S. men's national team soccer player Christian Pulisic used the dance to mark his goal against Jamaica.
Bowers shared that his touchdown celebration idea came from watching Jones perform the dance during a UFC event the night before. "I've seen everyone do it," Bowers told USA Today Sports. "I watched the UFC fight last night and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC, so I saw it and thought it was cool."
Adding to the trend's momentum, Trump himself highlighted the phenomenon on his Truth Social account, proclaiming, "TRUMP DANCE SWEEPS THE NATION," and sharing a compilation video of NFL players joining in the viral celebration.
