**New Orleans Mourns the Loss of Eric Paulsen with a Heartfelt Tribute**
The Crescent City has come together to mourn the loss of Eric Paulsen, a beloved morning anchor who became a familiar face during both the highs and lows of New Orleans' recent history. Kim Charbonnet, president of the 6 Ward Steppers Social Aid & Pleasure Club, shared how her phone was buzzing nonstop as news of Paulsen's passing spread.
"They were asking if we were going to second line for Eric Paulsen," Charbonnet recalled. "He was the morning man, there for us during Katrina. He was legendary."
Charbonnet's club is renowned for its commitment to supporting the New Orleans community and properly honoring its loved ones, even those who have adopted the city as their own. "It takes a lot to be in this city," Charbonnet explained. "If you're not from here, you can't understand our rich culture. But Eric accepted us, embraced us, and became part of our family."
The group announced on social media that they plan to honor Paulsen with a second line procession starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Tuba Fats Square in Treme'. The march will proceed down St. Phillip and pause in front of the WWL Louisiana station on N. Rampart.
A musical tribute will be performed by the Roots of Music, a youth organization deeply valued by Paulsen. Derrick Tabb, the program's executive director, reminisced about his friendship with the late anchor. "He always showed love for this organization," Tabb said. "I could call Eric anytime. We texted back and forth. He might even joke about my drum solos, just as I teased him about his ties."
Tabb expressed gratitude upon learning that the Paulsen family chose the Roots of Music to receive memorial donations. "That was very heartfelt," he shared. "To think about continuing to support something after your passing shows how special Eric was."
The Paulsen family has requested that memorial donations be made to Roots of Music or The Ella Project, ensuring that Eric Paulsen's legacy of community support endures.
