The beloved New York Times daily word game, Connections, has just gotten even better with the launch of an exciting new feature: the Connections archive. Starting this Wednesday, NYT Games and All Access subscribers can revisit and play any past game they've missed. This addition is sure to delight Connections enthusiasts who crave more frequent challenges or who simply want to master puzzles they previously struggled with.
Connections is a free game available on the NYT website and the Games app, where a fresh puzzle is unlocked at midnight each day. Players are presented with a grid of 16 words that need to be sorted into four groups of four based on their relationships. The groups might include items that can be clicked, names for research study participants, or words that can be preceded by a body part, among other creative links.
The puzzle has only one correct solution, and players must carefully consider words that may fit into multiple categories. To aid in spotting the links, the game allows for shuffling the words. Groups are color-coded to indicate difficulty: yellow for the easiest, blue and green for intermediate, and purple for the most challenging, often involving wordplay.
Participants make guesses by selecting four words they believe belong together and then pressing Submit. An incorrect guess results in the loss of a life. If players are close to forming a correct group, they might receive a hint indicating they're just one word off. However, accumulating four mistakes means the game is over.
As with other popular word games like Wordle, Connections makes it simple to share results on social media and in group chats, fostering a sense of community among players. For those who might find today's puzzle particularly tricky, hints and answers are provided, but with ample warnings to avoid accidental spoilers.
The NYT notes that with the availability of the Connections archive, players can now delve into previous puzzles and check past guides for solutions. This new feature promises to enhance the gaming experience for both seasoned players and newcomers alike.
