### Trespassing Poses Challenges for Elon Musk’s Boring Company in Las Vegas Loop

In recent years, Elon Musk’s Boring Company has faced a series of trespassing incidents at its Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, a 2.4-mile subterranean road network designed to alleviate traffic congestion. From skateboarders to unauthorized vehicles tailgating Teslas, these disruptions have forced the Boring Company and convention center staff to increase security measures.

The Loop, operational since 2021, is an ambitious project aimed at providing a novel public transit solution using human-driven Teslas. However, not all intrusions are as harmless as curious wanderers; some have led to operational pauses and security interventions. For example, one skateboarder infiltrated a tunnel via a passenger pickup station, causing staff to halt operations briefly while they removed the intruder. Another instance involved an individual entering a station when the transit system was offline, taking photos until security arrived.

Documents obtained by Fortune through a Freedom of Information Act request revealed that there have been at least 67 episodes of trespassing since 2022. Among these, 22 vehicles inadvertently followed Teslas into the tunnel network, mistaking the area for a parking or ride-share pickup zone. The confusion has frequently resulted in these vehicles being escorted out by company staff.

In response to these incidents, the Boring Company and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority have implemented a license plate reading system designed to close tunnel gates automatically when an unrecognized vehicle enters. This measure aims to minimize accidental intrusions, with the authority actively collaborating with the Boring Company to tighten security.

Despite the advent of enhanced security mechanisms, not all breaches are entirely accidental. Some people have shown intent to evade capture, such as a man attempting to dismantle a license plate reader at one of the stations. In another case, two individuals were found sleeping in a station close to the convention center parking lot, necessitating their removal by security.

Official records do not indicate whether the Boring Company has involved the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police in these matters. A spokesperson for the police department confirmed that there were no known incidents requiring officer dispatch to the Loop.

For passengers who utilize the Loop, the experience has largely been positive, with over 2 million riders since its inception in June 2021. Reports from the convention and visitors authority highlight high satisfaction scores among users. However, the tunnel system remains exclusive to conference attendees, though the company is working to expand routes and access points beyond the convention center, including potential links to the airport, pending city approvals.

As the Boring Company continues to push forward with its Las Vegas project and develop new tunneling technology, it must also grapple with maintaining security and preventing unauthorized access, ensuring a safe and efficient transit experience for all its passengers.
