Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a prominent member of the Democratic caucus, suggested on Wednesday that it is up to President Joe Biden to decide whether to run in the 2024 race. In an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Pelosi emphasized that time is running short and encouraged Biden to make a decision soon.

While she stopped short of giving a full endorsement, Pelosi acknowledged that Biden is beloved and respected within the party, making it clear that many Democrats want him to run. However, she emphasized that it is ultimately the president's choice and that she will support whatever decision he makes.

Pelosi's remarks carry weight within the Democratic Party, considering her previous leadership role and the continued guidance sought from her by rank and file members. Her intentional comments have sparked a frenzy of speculation about Biden's future plans, causing some House Democrats to carefully withhold their opinions on the matter.

The former speaker revealed that she has advised her Democratic colleagues to "hold off" on publicly expressing their thoughts about Biden's candidacy until further developments occur. Consequently, there has been a significant silence from many Democrats, with only a few House Democrats publicly calling for Biden to withdraw from the race.

While House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have reiterated their support for Biden as the Democratic nominee, the overall level of support among congressional Democrats remains unclear. At least nine House Democrats have publicly raised concerns about Biden's ability to defeat former President Donald Trump, with Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado becoming the first Senate Democrat to voice similar doubts.

In response to Pelosi's comments, a Biden campaign official pointed to the president's recent letter to Democratic lawmakers reaffirming his commitment to staying in the race and defeating Trump. The official also highlighted Pelosi's previous statement indicating her steadfast support for Biden.

Last week, Pelosi raised questions about Biden's performance at a debate, suggesting it was a "legitimate question" whether it was a "condition" or merely an "episode." Biden and the White House have dismissed any notions that the president has any major health concerns affecting his ability to run.

As the speculation over Biden's future intensifies, the Democratic Party is grappling with its support for the current president and the importance of defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming election. With Pelosi urging Biden to make a swift decision, all eyes are now on President Biden as the clock ticks towards the 2024 race.
