In the early hours of June 23, a shooting occurred in downtown St. Louis, resulting in multiple injuries and one fatality. The incident took place at the intersection of 10th and Market Street around 2:30 a.m. local time.

According to a spokesperson from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers from district four were already attending to a call in the downtown area when they heard multiple gunshots. Rushing to the scene, they discovered several individuals who had been shot.

Shortly after, additional victims began arriving at the hospital seeking medical attention. Sadly, one 26-year-old man was pronounced dead. Another victim remains in critical condition, while the majority of the injured individuals are in their early 20s.

Homicide detectives are currently investigating the incident and believe that a fight initially broke out among a group of girls, which quickly escalated as others became involved. This led to the eruption of gunfire. While one firearm has been recovered from the scene, it is yet to be determined if it was used in the shooting.

The Director of Public Affairs mentioned that during the chaos, one officer was assaulted. Thankfully, the person responsible for the assault has been taken into custody and will face charges for assaulting a police officer.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this shooting to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at (866) 371-8477.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and other local agencies will continue to cooperate in their efforts to resolve this incident and prevent such tragedies in the future.
