In a recent outburst on his MSNBC show, "All in With Chris Hayes," host Chris Hayes expressed frustration over new poll results that showed former President Trump as the favorite to win the Electoral College and potentially return to the presidency in November. The poll, conducted by renowned pollster Nate Silver, indicated that while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris would likely prevail in the national popular vote, Trump still had the upper hand in the Electoral College.

Hayes took to his social media account to criticize the Electoral College system, drawing parallels to a quote from Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, who warned about potential negative consequences if the Court prioritized doctrine over practicality. Hayes suggested that the U.S.'s commitment to the Electoral College could result in the calamity of Trump winning another term in the White House.

The poll in question was Nate Silver's latest election model, which was shared by finance journalist "Geiger Capital" on social media. According to the model, Trump was leading with 52% while Harris trailed at 47%. The primary factor contributing to Trump's advantage was Pennsylvania, where Harris opted not to choose Josh Shapiro as her running mate.

Hayes strongly criticized the Electoral College as an institution that not only undermines democracy but also creates a convoluted system vulnerable to manipulation by bad actors. He also pointed out that no states in the U.S. elect their governors based on a similar system, further highlighting its obsolescence in his opinion.

One user challenged Hayes' argument, to which the MSNBC host responded by referencing a previous monologue where he claimed that the Electoral College, if not part of the constitution, would be deemed unconstitutional. He shared a link to a segment on his show defending Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who had also criticized the Electoral College as a "scam."

Hayes further denounced the Electoral College as an outdated system that Republicans cling to out of fear that they are in the minority. He argued that it was time to reconsider its relevance in modern democracy.

The debate surrounding the legitimacy and effectiveness of the Electoral College continues to be a topic of discussion among pundits, politicians, and the general public. As the 2020 election looms, the polls and the arguments put forth by individuals like Chris Hayes will undoubtedly influence the discourse on the future of the American electoral system.
